The art of reborning first began in the United States of America, and it was not long before this wonderful art form became popular in many other countries too. Reborn artists all over the world continually strive to improve their techniques in an attempt to create an extremely lifelike baby doll, which will ultimately result in a baby doll which not only looks like a real baby, but feels like a real infant when held.

A reborn baby can be created from a collector's doll, or from a kit. In the case of a doll, the process begins with the careful disassembling of the doll. Once disassembled, the factory applied paint and hair are painstakingly and very carefully removed, and the parts of the doll are then thoroughly cleansed and dried before the process of bringing the doll to life can begin. With regard to a kit, which is a blank canvas, no preparation is required but the kit is sometimes washed and left to dry thoroughly prior to painting.

Here at Daisy Chain Nursery, the 'Genesis' range of heat set artist oils and mediums are used to bring these beautiful babies to life. This paint range is, in my opinion, the best available and one which gives these babies a most natural and realistic finish. These paints produce a high quality finish, which is extremely durable, resistant to fade and colour-fast. This results in a lifelike baby which will remain as beautiful in years to come as it was when first created.

The babies are created using many, many extremely fine and translucent layers of this wonderful paint, each layer being heat set prior to application of the next. Lips are carefully coloured and sealed to give as natural a look as possible, and the nails are also coloured and sealed to provide as natural look as possible. Tiny barely there eyebrows are also painstakingly painted, in fact no part of the baby is overlooked, and every part of the doll or kit is given fine and incredibly realistic detailing to create an extremely lifelike beautiful baby. A very, very fine layer of finishing varnish is then applied to give an even more lifelike and realistic finish to baby's skin, but this is only done once I am completely satisfied with the baby.

Once baby's painting process is complete, which is done over several days, rooting the hair can begin. This is achieved using top quality premium angora mohair, which is extremely fine, soft and silky and closely resembles the hair of areal baby. The hair is then micro-rooted into the baby's head using the finest of needles. I use 42 gauge needles which insert one or two hairs into each individual 'follicle', or a 43 gauge needle which will insert only one hair into each 'follicle'. The hair is directionally micro-rooted in the natural growth pattern of a real baby's hair, and each baby has a crown just as a real baby has.

The hair, once rooted, is trimmed to give a real baby look, and sealed from within with a waterproof sealant. The baby's eyelashes are also rooted using the same quality premium angora mohair, and also sealed from within to ensure that they are secure. The process of rooting can take several days to complete, but it is most certainly worth the many, many hours spent as the end result is a beautiful and extremely realistic head of hair.

All Daisy Chain Nursery babies are created using only the best materials available. They all have an excellent quality custom-made doe-suede body. These bodies are fully jointed, which means that baby is fully poseable, and can be posed in many different and realistic baby poses. The limbs are filled with tiny glass granules and luxury fibrefill, which are then sealed to prevent leakage. The head and body are filled with glass beads, all contained within small pouches, and the same luxury fibrefill, and baby is then ready to be 'born'. Babies are then carefully put together, and extreme care is taken to ensure that each baby is made to an extremely high standard and is of excellent quality.

All Daisy Chain babies have a magnetic soother, which means that they contain an extremely strong magnet inside the head, and the soother itself has a magnet attached. Thus, care must be taken around certain electrical equipment and computers, and baby should not be held by anyone with a pacemaker.

Every baby will come home with clothes and accessories which have been carefully chosen for him or her, and also a Daisy Chain Nursery birth certificate and care instructions. They will then be beautifully and securely wrapped and packaged to ensure their safe journey to their new home.
